Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is an evidence based treatment which can be effectively used to treat symptoms of a variety of different presentations such as depression, social anxiety, OCD, body dysmorphia, panic disorder, phobias, health anxiety and PTSD. In a typical session we will talk about situations you are finding difficult and explore how they make you think, feel and act. The aim of exploring how our thoughts and feelings can influence what we do (and what we might avoid doing) is to not only identify patterns which might be keeping us stuck and keeping the problem going but also to see how thoughts, feelings and behaviours all interact. If we can change one area, often the other areas can fall into place too.
CBT is a very exploratory and collaborative approach and can absolutely be adapted to better support neurodivergent clients. We will work together to use what we have discovered to develop different ways to cope and regain a sense of control over symptoms and an enhanced quality of life. Further information regarding CBT can be found on the BABCP website.
