Hello and welcome.  My name is Marie-Louise and I created  Felt Sense Psychotherapy, as a means to not only offer  specialised evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), but to also draw on my experience as a yoga teacher to incorporate somatic body-based interventions within talking therapy.  I have always found the mind-body link fascinating and have witnessed real transformation and insight occuring within the therapy room when clients have been able to pay more attention to their own felt sense of a situation, problem or experience.  I offer a tailored approach which aims to address the root causes of distress and promote sustainable healing, through drawing on both body based interventions and psychotherapeutic tools to support you to move forwards in your life.

For neurodivergent clients (or clients querying whether they have neurodivergent traits), consideration will always be given for how to best support you so you can make the most of sessions, all approaches used can be adapted where needed and as an HCPC registered Occupational Therapist with additional sensory strategy training, I can also support you to develop your own sensory strategies to align with your own unique preferences and sensory system, if this might feel helpful.  The most important thing to know is that you are welcome to just bring yourself as you are to our sessions.  I always carry fidget toys with me but if you need to bring anything to our sessions that would help make you feel more comfortable, please know, you are very welcome to do so.

Sessions can be offered in person at beautiful therapy rooms in Hove and can also be offered remotely using a specialised EMDR therapy platform wherever you may be based.

Services

Integrated Psychological therapy approach

Offering a trauma-informed approach that integrates psychological therapy approaches such as CBT, EMDR, parts work and ACT, and may include, depending on need and what you are looking to develop through therapy, an Occupational therapy approach through developing sensory strategies and somatic body based techniques to support meaningful, functional change.

How I work

Therapy with me is collaborative, paced, and grounded in safety.  We focus on understanding patterns, building capacity, and creating change in ways that feel sustainable and respectful.

I integrate evidence-based approaches including:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to process and integrate traumatic events.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) identifying the links between thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations and behaviour and what is maintaining difficulties and working out together ways to affect positive change.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) building flexibility, values based living and self-compassion.

Parts work to identify and understand different parts of our psyche and inner dialogue with the aim being to integrate these aspects for emotional healing.

Somatic and body based techniques to work with the body to support regulation, grounding and emotional processing.

Sensory strategies to create tools to support sensory regulation, overwhelm and nervous system balance.

Occupational therapy (OT) to support daily functioning, regulation, routines and building skills to promote meaningful participation in life.

The approaches we use will really depend on what might best support you at this time.  All approaches will be guided by a trauma informed lens, with choice, consent and pacing at the centre.  For neurodivergent clients or those querying neurodiversity, a neuroaffirmative framework may also be applied meaning that your nervous system responses make sense in context, differences are respected and therapy is about increasing safety, capacity and choice, not forcing change.
